The shuttle was scheduled to land exactly at Kennedy Space Center, but because of bad weather it landed at Mojave Desert in California.
Now NASA has to carry the 100-ton space shuttle across the country. Specially modified Boeing 747 carrier now is taking Atlantis back to Florida.
While preparing Atlantis to its journey engineers also removed torn heat insulation from engine pod. Meanwhile, Kennedy Space Center engineers were preparing space shuttle Endeavour to move to assembly building. The shuttle must be equipped with fuel tank and a pair of booster rockets to be ready for its August 7th launch.
Atlantis’s next mission is going to take place in December. The shuttle will take European Space Agency's Columbus laboratory to International Space Station.
Building International Space Station is a project of 16 nations. It’s approximately estimated to cost $100 billion. The mission is 60 percent completed.
The mission is scheduled to be completed by 2010. By that time Atlantis will have 12 construction missions, 2 station supply flights, and a final mission to Hubble Space Telescope.
When the International Space Station mission gets completed Atlantis shuttle will proudly retire. by Ruzan Harutyunyan for HULIQ
