The murder weapon connected in the slayings of actress/singer Jennifer Hudson’s family has been recovered by the Chicago police.

During a routine investigation, a police recruit discovered the .45 caliber weapon and other evidence today in a rubbish filled lot on 14th Street between Kildare and Kolin Avenues according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Hudson’s 7 year old nephew Julian King’s body was found inside a white Chevy Suburban in the 1300 block of South Kolin Monday morning.

The recovered murder weapon and other evidence in the Hudson case was turned over to the Illinois State Police crime lab, according to Chicago Police Chief Nick Roti.

A preliminary autopsy report shows Julian King was shot multiple times, two of them in the head according to a Chicago police official.

Chicago Mayor Daley has a lot to be concerned about with the slayings of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7 year old nephew. First of all, Chicago is the homicide capital of the nation, and the city is in the running for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

“We’re not proud of it. But, you don’t hide it. You don’t take the statistics, all the facts and say it didn’t happen. It happens,” Daley said.

“This is a tragedy—a family tragedy. Her mother lived in Englewood, proud of Englewood. There are good families in Englewood. Proud of it. We have to remind ourselves [of] that. There are good people out in every community here in the city,” he said.
Family related homicides make up 80% of all Chicago homicides according to Mayor Daley. Currently, Chicago has more homicides than New York and Los Angeles in 2008—even though those cities have a higher population.
