The hype is on. Epic Studios is scheduled to release Gears of War 2 later this week with all the hoopla normally reserved for a major movie release. Gamers are gearing up for the worldwide sequel to the award winning Xbox 360 game.

'Gears of War 2” is the highly anticipated sequel to the 5 million-selling blockbuster third-person tactical action game. It's one of the most popular Xbox 360 games in the companies' history and gamers all across the globe is readying for its release. Video games produced more revenue than movies and DVDs in 2007 according to published reports. And “Gears of War 2” is expected to do even better than its predecessor.

For those of you who are not familiar with the story line, “Gears of War 2” picks up six months after the events of the first game. Gamers are thrusted into a deep and harrowing story of humankind's epic battle for survival against a nightmarish force of underground creatures known as the Locust Horde. Sounds creepy. Xbox 360 graphic artists have gone through great lengths to make this game as realistic as possible.

Gears of War 2 is filled with dangerous enemies like the Drones and Boomers, but it now includes machete brandishing goons like Butchers and suicide bombers called Trickers. In addition, Xbox 360 gamers can expect exciting, diverse environments as they battle adversaries. Reviews are applauding the multi-player feature as the best feature of Gears of War 2, up to 10 players can compete in seven modes.

More than 20,000 retailers around the world plan to have 12:01AM kickoff events for Gears Of War 2, according to Epic and Microsoft. The movie rights and a published novel about the realistic game has already launched the beginnings of an entertainment franchise.

Huge launch parties will be thrown in London, Los Angeles and New York. The lead designer for Gears of War 2, Cliff Bleszinski, who has a feature profile in the new issue of The New Yorker Magazine, will be on hand at Universal Studios in Los Angeles to sign autographs for the kickoff. Xbox 360 gamers are probably sitting on pins of needles waiting on the release of the hot Gears of War 2.
