Infant Found Abandoned At Butte Creek Country Club

Investigators with the Butte County Sheriff's Department said they have located the parents of an infant who was abandoned at Butte Creek Country Club golf course Monday afternoon in Chico, California. By Monday evening the Butte County Sheriff's Office had reported "a relative" of the infant had been located, but didn't provide additional details.

Around 12:30 pm., a resident found the infant near Estates Drive between Players Lane and Highway 99, according to the sheriff's department. The person who found the infant took him to the Butte Creek Country Club and called authorities.

Redding resident Bobbi Lee said she was on the course watching her daughter play golf in a tournament when she saw something blue under a tree between the 12th and 13th holes, near Estates Drive at Butte Creek Country Club.

Lee went to investigate and found an infant sitting upright in a flower bed with his arms and legs folded.

"He wasn't crying; he wasn't making any noise at all," Lee said.
Not seeing anyone that could have left the infant, she took him to the Butte Creek Country Club pro shop and dialed 9-1-1.

When the police arrived, they took the abandoned infant to Enloe Hospital for a wellness exam. Officers say the infant had no signs of any injuries and has been placed in protective custody.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Hail said it appeared the abandoned infant had been placed where he was found, and there was no evidence the child crawled there. No note was found, nor anything that would identify the infant.

Later, a person identified as the abandoned infants' father called authorities after seeing local news reports of the abandoned baby. Officers as a result of the call, located the abandoned infants' mother at a friend's house. After speaking with her, officers decided to transport the mother to a medical facility. No criminal charges were filed and the case was referred to the Butte County District Attorney for further review. According to the Butte County Sheriff's Department, the child will stay in protective custody until officers complete their investigation.
