At stake were17 electoral votes, that Governor Jennifer Granholm has delivered for Illinois Senator Barack Obama. In the month of September, Barack Obama visited the state at least 5 times in an effort to guarantee a Democratic win for him.
Obama formed a grass roots campaign with volunteers from all walks of life proving that people of different cultures and backgrounds could come together for the common good to affect change. In spite of many negative attacks on Obama's character, he has managed to carry the state of Michigan thus gaining a larger lead in electoral votes.
Barack Obama has a steady lead of 174 electoral votes, John McCain has 64 according to CNN. We could be looking at the first African American president if this continues.
