Can The Detroit Lions Win This Season?

It’s been a dark season for Detroit Lions fans. The Detroit Lions have the worst record in the NFL (0-8). This Sunday they play the 3-5 Jacksonville Jaguars, hoping for their first win this season.

This will be the second time in a row that the Lions have not sold out a home game. Usually fans can count on seeing their home team on television, lackluster or not. The Lions had sold out 50 straight home games that is until two weeks ago when they didn’t sell out against the Washington Redskins, another loss of course.

In the past, Detroit Lions fans have hung in there with the team, good bad or indifferent. However, just like U.S. voters voted for political change, the fans are voting for the Lions to change.

Detroit Lions fans are long suffering. Just ask Cheryl Payne, a passionate Lion fan, she’s decided against watching the team on TV this season.

“They make me so mad. I’m usually the first person who defends the Lions with pure fire. But this season I can’t take it. I get made about the Lions when I discuss them”

In an effort to win a few games before the end of the season, the Lions acquired quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper belongs to the NFL quarterback elite. He can lead a successfully, but the question is can he stay healthy?

In his 10th year in the NFL, Culpepper has played with the Dolphins the Raiders and the Vikings. His stats are impressive:

142 passing touchdowns, for a 63.8% accuracy rate averaging 7.7 yards per pass. The Lions could use a player like this, the fans could use a player like this.

Fans can only hope for a win soon to end their suffering. On the other hand, no team wants to be the team that loses to the Lions. That would be embarrassing, even if Culpepper is the quarterback.

With over half the season gone, the Lions can only hope for a .500 season. No one expects Culpepper to take the Lions to the playoffs. But stranger things have happened.
