YouTube Goes Live

Live webcasting from YouTube debuted tonight in an attempt to take the video sharing web site’s viewers to a new level. YouTube is hoping to showcase all that great talent behind some of its most viewed videos. Whether it will be a hit remains a mystery.

YouTube Live grew out of a matured web video start-up owned by Google. A short look at the live online party shows that the show definitely needs better talent. Most of the viewers had left less than admirable comments about the performances on YouTube Live. Some 52,000+ comments had been left in less than an hour of webcasting.

Rapper Will.i.Am and singer Katy Perry of “I kissed A Girl” fame were scheduled to perform. YouTube video star Esmee Denters was also scheduled to perform. Denters is known for posting a video of her singing popular hit songs on YouTube. You Tube Live is an effort to feature some of its most popular performers according to the site’s users. The challenge will be for this internet live party to keep coming up with fresh content in order to keep their audiences entertained.

The YouTube Live webcast is being broadcast all over the web from San Francisco. YouTube has been around since 2005 and has featured all kinds of videos to campaign ads from the presidential candidates to video demonstrations of cup stacking.

"The value of YouTube is we've created this platform that's been driven by the community, so this is in reaction to that," said YouTube spokesman Chris Di Cesare "Having a community event that the community values benefits all involved."

However, YouTube Live may have to include major performers like Will.i.Am consistently in order to appeal to the fickle likes and dislikes of the internet audience that frequents regular YouTube videos. Some of the things YouTube Live will try and capture will be appearances and demonstrations by personalities Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. Both attended the YouTube Live event and are known for the television show “Mythbusters” on the Discovery channel.

Virgin America, a YouTube Live sponsor, is participating in the monumental event. It will showcase the airline carrier’s first Wi-Fi enabled plane to circle the skies above the YouTube Live event and stream a segment of the show from 35,000 feet to an online and on the ground audience.

While much of the entertainment is corny at first, YouTube Live gives you an alternative to broadcast television.
