Remains of Caylee Anthony May Have Been Found

A meter reader working in the area near the home of missing toddler Caylee Anthony’s grandparents made a gruesome discovery this morning. Police say the utility worker picked up a plastic bag that contained the skeletal remains consistent with that of a small child. Caylee Anthony, 3, has been missing since June and her 22-year old mother Casey Anthony is facing charges for the girl’s disappearance.

The remains were discovered around 9:30am this morning when a utility worker found it near Caylee Anthony’s grandparents’ home. Investigators from the Anthony case were on the scene and have already notified the Anthony family about the discovery.

The case of Caylee Anthony received national attention and has resulted in the arrest of her mother Casey Anthony. Casey has been charged with first-degree murder along with other charges in Caylee’s disappearance.

Police are not confirming reports that the remains are that of a small girl, however they did say that the site where the body was found was “very safe to say it's in very close proximity" to Casey Anthony’s parents’ home.

Reportedly, when the meter reader picked up the plastic bag, the skull fell from inside it.

The case received attention after Casey Anthony waited a month before telling her family that Caylee was missing. The child’s maternal grandmother, Cindy Anthony, notified the Orange County sheriff’s office on July 15 to inform them that her daughter would not tell her where Caylee was.

Authorities questioned Casey Anthony in the disappearance of Caylee, and she gave conflicting statements, including many that were not valid according to investigators and reports released about the case.
Casey claimed she took Caylee to a baby-sitter, a woman who says she did not even know Casey Anthony. Even the address Casey gave the police was later learned had been vacant for weeks.

Investigators on the case became more suspicious of Casey’s story and had cadaver dogs brought in. The dogs picked up the scent of death in Casey’s car as well as in her parents’ back yard. The FBI conducted air quality tests and found evidence consistent with human decomposition and chloroform in the trunk of Casey’s car. A neighbor of Casey Anthony told police that she had asked to borrow a shovel.
Further investigation of Casey’s computer discovered she had visited web sites discussing chloroform and missing children, according to reports released about the case.

"There isn't a motive and they haven't found a motive," Cindy Anthony said Wednesday night during an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live." She added, "They told us they thought it was an accident and she's scared and tried to cover it up. They don't feel there's a motive."
Caylee Anthony’s family has said all along that they believe the child is still alive.
