In a press conference that confirmed what police already believed, the remains found in a plastic bag by a meter reader has been identified as those of Caylee Anthony. Local police and the FBI contributed to the investigation of the missing toddler since her disappearance became public several months ago.
The case of 2 year old Caylee Anthony became a media sensation when it was revealed that Caylee’s 22 year old mother Casey Anthony did not report the child missing for more than a month. DNA testing was completed and the remains have been identified as those belonging to Caylee.
Although toxicology tests are yet to be completed, the Orange County Chief Medical Examiner has stated that the remains were “completely skeletized,” and that there was no trauma to the bones of Caylee Anthony. The manner of death was homicide and the cause of death was by “undetermined means” according to the Orange County Coroner’s office.
Last week a meter reader discovered the Caylee’s remains in a field just a half mile away from Casey Anthony’s parents’ home.
Authorities must now break the news to Casey Anthony who remains jailed on first degree murder charges. Possibly a jail chaplain or psychologist may be on hand when the news of Caylee’s identity is revealed to Casey Anthony. It is unknown if this visit has taken place yet at the jail where Casey Anthony is being held.
According to the police, the meter reader who discovered the remains of Caylee Anthony, had called the department four months ago, in an attempt to direct them to the site where the skeletized bones were discovered. The police went to the site three times in August but were unable to find anything that relating to the Caylee Anthony case.
The tips that were given to the police in August will be reviewed according to Sheriff Beary. One of the reasons the remains may not have been discovered as quickly was due to a tropical storm the area had in August which would have prevented the evidence from being found. Investigators said all leads, some 5,600 tips received nationwide, were all followed up on in the Caylee Anthony investigation.
On August 13, the same meter reader who found the remains of Caylee last week, called the police and reported seeing a gray bay on the side of the road. However, a deputy responded to the site, did a “cursory search but found nothing,” according to a police spokesman.
The deputy has not been identified pending the investigation of “the thoroughness” of the response of the deputy. The meter reader is not a suspect, but is a very “credible witness,” according to the Sheriff’s department.

#1 Caylee
Tell me more about this meter reader. Why was he so interested? How did he know where to send Police? Was he possibly involved somehow. Sounds sinister to me.
