The Santa Killer’s death toll is now at nine, as police and fire investigators have discovered three more bodies in the burned out rubbish of a house. Police are speculating that Pardo killed himself only after discovering his severe burns. $17,000 was found strapped to his corpse strapped to his legs inside a girdle. Pardo apparently wanted to have easy access to the money.
Making a homemade flamethrower, the Santa Killer managed to create a Christmas Eve massacre that would take the lives of his wife and her parents.
Covina, CA Police Chief Kim Raney said during a press conference that the Santa Killer had purchased a ticket to Canada. Pardo was going to leave Los Angeles early Christmas morning.
Chief Raney also divulged circumstances surrounding a pipe bomb that exploded inside Pardo’s rental car on Christmas night. The car was apparently rigged to detonate if someone were to remove the Santa suit. There was ammunition and black powder inside the vehicle according to Raney.
Upon searching Pardo’s home in Montrose, California, police found five empty boxes that once contained semiautomatic handguns, two high powered shotguns, and some racing fuel. Police believe the racing fuel was used in the homemade flame thrower the Santa killer used.
The 8 year old girl who answered the door after the Santa killer knocked, was shot in the face, but has survived. She was Pardo’s first victim.
"She has a very, very severe injury to her face. It's not life-threatening, but she's got a very tough road ahead of her," Lt. Pat Buchanan of the Covina Police Department said at a news conference Thursday.
Witnesses have reported that the Santa killer may have actually targeted some of the victims, standing over them and killing them execution style. There were 25 party goers and many began jumping out of windows trying to escape the gunman and the flames.
The Christmas Eve party was a family tradition, according to Cnn.com, and that the party usually featured a visit from Santa Claus, played by a neighbor. Lt. Buchanan is assuming that this tradition is probably where Pardo got the idea for the Santa outfit.
