Second Senator Gets Sick At Inaugural Luncheon

Both Sen. Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd became ill and had to be rushed to the hospital by paramedics. They were both attending the Inaugural Luncheon in honor of President Barack Obama.

Sen. Ted Kennedy collapsed at the inaugural luncheon following President Barack Obama’s inauguration according to CNN. The luncheon was being held at the Capitol’s Statuary Hall.

Paramedics have responded to the scene and there are reports that Sen. Kennedy has had a seizure. It was in May of 2008 that the senator discovered he had a malignant brain tumor.

Ted Kennedy, 76, is the only surviving son in the Kennedy family. His oldest brother Joseph was killed during World War II; his brother John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963; and his other brother Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

Sen. Kennedy’s term is scheduled to end in 2013, he has been in the Senate since 1962, filling a seat left vacant by his brother John, when he became elected President. Kennedy made a run for the White House in 1980 but it was unsuccessful.

New reports are now available with Senator Robert Byrd also having been rushed to the hospital. Sen. Byrd is one of the oldest members in Congress and he was removed by medical personnel in a wheelchair. They responded after the senator had trouble eating.
