Hope Is Coming To Fort Myers, Florida. President Barack Obama is having a town hall meeting with 1,500 residents of the poverty stricken city. Its free to get in, but tickets are limited to 1,500 and hundreds are already lined up for them.
Some have come with blankets and camp style chairs waiting for some words of hope from Pres. Obama.
A once homeless man, and the first person in line is Roy Hendrix, arrived Sunday morning for his free ticket, according to the Miami Herald .
Hendrix was once employed by a pawn shop, but became homeless when the shop went out of business. Living in a tent in the woods, some friends recently took him in.
"I get to see the president of the United States, in my town," said Hendrix, 51. "That's better than any rock concert or the World Series."
Fort Myers has been hit hard by this economic downturn. Suffering 10% unemployment numbers along with the country's worst housing market, Obama will be there to promote his $820 economic stimulus plan. A vote by the Senate is scheduled Tuesday.
Obama will visit nearby Lehigh Acres neighborhoods, an area with many foreclosed homes along with some unfinished construction projects. All evidence of the toll this economy is taking on Americans.
