On Monday, AMD revealed its new speed demon making it available immediately to the public. The Phenom II "Dragon" line is AMD's bid to raise its game with the new chips. They've even thought out the back end making them eligible for faster speeds.
There are few different models with varying colors and whether its a triple-core or quad-core processor.
The Phenom II X3 runs at either 2.6 or 2.8GHz and the 2.8Gig variant is 20 per cent faster doing a 3D rendering task than a Core 2 Duo E8400 and also costs $20 less at $145. The four-core Phenom II X4 can run at either 2.5 or 2.6GHz, and the 2.6GHz 810 model has a 159 SysMark 2007 rating compared to a Core 2 Quad Q8200's 146. Not too shabby.
Models include:
• AMD Phenom II X4 910 - (2.6GHz)
• AMD Phenom II X4 810 - (2.6GHz)
• AMD Phenom II X4 805 - (2.5GHz)
• AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition - (2.8GHz)
• AMD Phenom II X3 710 - (2.6GHz)
If you're looking for an example of a Core 2 Quad by Intel, Hewlett-Packard makes a model with it..the HP Pavillion Elite M9510F. The 2.6GHz 810 model by AMD has a better quality rating than the Core 2 Quad. Newegg had a pretty decent price on it when I checked last.
Chips like the ones that AMD has come out with are great for gamers, providing life-like graphics and boosting the efficiencies of desktop tasks. If you're pricing a desktop with Phenom II X 4 -940, you can expect to spend around $1,200.00 USD. The processor itself can be had for less than $200USD.
