As reported earlier on Huliq.com, Chris Brown had turned himself in to the LAPD for felony domestic violence charges. Now police sources are saying that a witness who called 9-1-1 holds the key to what really went on Sunday night on Hancock Park street.
It's being alleged that Chris Brown beat pop star Rihanna on a quiet suburban Los Angeles street. No details have come forth in why Brown would assault his 19-year old girlfriend, but sources say the two had just left Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills.
The witness who called police was unaware who was causing a disturbance, and had no knowledge this incident would become a high-profile celebrity story. The caller told the 9-1-1 operator that a "violent altercation" was taking place on Hancock Park street according to the LAtimes.com.
No charges have been filed yet against Brown, while detectives still assemble pieces of evidence in the alleged assault. The case has not been turned over to prosecutors yet, they alone can make the decision to file charges against Chris Brown.
“As of right now, nothing has been presented,” said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
Chris Brown was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of making criminal threats and was released on $50,000 bail.
Sources close to the investigation say Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, had very visible injuries during the alleged assault. She and Chris Brown were nominated multiple times for awards at the Sunday ceremony. However, neither one showed up, and Brown, 19, surrendered to police once the Grammys began.
The website TMZ.com reports that Rihanna suffered contusions and bite marks, and that even though Chris Brown was charged with felony domestic violence charges, he did not have a weapon. However, police say any body part could be considered a weapon, depending on the circumstances.
In 2008, Barbados-born Rihanna sold nearly 10 million digital song downloads, more than anyone else. Her publicist issued a statement on Sunday night: “Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support.” Rihanna was scheduled to perform on the Grammys as well.
Chris Brown will be arraigned March 5. He will be represented by high powered celebrity attorney Mark Geragos. Brown was the fourth-best-selling artist in 2008 with 6.8 million digital downloads sold. Currently, Brown was in a Wrigleys Gum commercial, and since this incident on Sunday night, the company has suspended the commercials Brown was in.
