Auditor Sentenced for Larceny

An auditor who stole $1.2 million from the state over nine years was sentenced Monday to 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison, The Associated Press reported.

The auditor, James Leggiero, pleaded guilty in April to first-degree grand larceny. His prosecution was the first high-profile corruption case brought by Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo’s public integrity unit, the AP reported.

Leggiero, a principal auditor with the State Office of Mental Health, was charged with setting up a company and billing his office for fake feasibility studies, the AP reported.

Prosecutors said Leggiero approved vouchers from the company for payment, the AP reported.-New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants
