Study reports that men and women are equally talkative. The study found both men and women pronouncing about 16000 words a day.
Scientists studied 400 university students during several days. Students pronounced about 700 to 47000 words each day, which makes about 16000 words each day on average. Study participants carried electronically activated recorders 17 hours daily to record their conversations.
There were 210 women and 186 men being studied during 10 days. The participants were mainly aged from 17 to 29.
Participants were from six university groups – five from US and one from Mexico. Study claims that Americans talk on phone, meanwhile Mexicans like live conversations.
Previous studies claimed that women are three times chattier than men. This opinion is very widespread. But the new study comes to shock everybody who has this opinion.
Researchers themselves were very surprised with the results. They did not expect to find both genders talking equally much.
"I was surprised by the results," said Matthias Mehl, the author of the study. "We all approached it with the idea that all women talk more than men."
Study showed that there are main themes participants are talking about: men talk about money, sports, technology, women talk about fashion, relationships, and both genders talk about labor.
These results could be different, if study included participants of older ages. Practice shows that study result mainly depend on age and gender. But the fact is that university aged genders talk equally. HULIQ
