Boeing is set Sunday to unveil its new 787 Dreamliner, the first commercial jet made mostly of lighter carbon fiber materials. The rollout event for the 787 Dreamliner will be available for the world to view. In an unprecedented move, the event will be broadcast live via webcast in nine different languages at 3:30 p.m. PDT on Sunday, July 8 (7/8/07).
The new airplane's lighter weight will help save about 20 percent on fuel costs, making it more efficient to fly than models made by its competitors.
Boeing, which is in competition with the European-made Airbus, already has 677 orders for the new plane from at least 46 companies. That large number of orders made the Dreamliner Boeing's most successful new model ever.
