2.9 million CHF from Sweden to the WTO

Sweden offers CHF2.9 million to the WTO training programme for the benefit of developing countries

Sweden has donated CHF2.9 (SEK16 million) to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF) for the activities of 2007. The full amounts have been paid in July.

Sweden is the biggest contributor and this last donation brings its total contribution to CHF16.6 million.

This donation will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to better adapt their practices and laws to WTO rules and disciplines, improve the implementation of their obligations and enhance the exercise of their membership rights.

WTO Director General Pascal Lamy declared “I welcome this new donation which demonstrates Sweden's commitment to help developing countries fully benefit from the multilateral trading system.”

Swedish' Ambassador Mia Horn Af Rantzien stated “this contribution reflects Sweden's concrete and continuous support to efforts in assisting poorer countries, develop their trading activities and make trade work for development and poverty reduction.” -World Trade Organization
