More than 1.5 million tourists and holiday makers visited Cyprus during the months of January-June 2006, which is an increase of 0.1 percent in comparison to the same period of the previous year’s tourists’ inflow to Cyprus, reports Yasoutravel.com.
In the meanwhile the Cystat report shows that the more Cypriots themselves prefer to spend their holidays in Cyprus, decreasing the departures from Cyprus by 0.7 percent compared to the same period in 2005.
People, who generally have travelled to Cyprus by ship or airline, are mostly of European origin. More Europeans are also spending their holidays in rented Villas or up-market hotels. The analysis shows that 85.7 percent of travellers are from Europe.
The United Kingdom tops the list of Cyprus visitors accounting for 57.0% of tourist arrivals, Germany is next with 6.8%, Greece has sent the 5.5% percent of tourists, Russia 4.6%, Sweden 3.6%, France 1.9%, Norway 1.9% and Ireland has contributed 1.8% of tourist visitors to the tourism development in Cyprus.
Cyprus has earned about $879.1 million US Dollars during the first half of 2006 from tourism, which is an increase of about 3.9% over the corresponding period of the previous year.
