School Holidays Break Up - Brits head for the sun

British families bolt for the airports as they head to their holiday homes for a Summer of fun in the sun. Two million Brits will be heading overseas when most British schools break up for the summer this weekend, according to the ABTA travel trade association.

Airlines companies are reporting strong sales for flights heading for Spain, the Balearics and the Canary Islands, though flights to Portugal, Greece and Turkey are also selling well, thanks to a combination of the strong pound (GBP) and the poor July weather that most the UK has faced until now.

Heathrow and Gatwick airports will be particularly busy, with over 700,000 departures expected, while Stanstead is prepared to deal with 150,000 passengers.

Manchester airport is expecting 130,000 travelers, while Luton and Birmingham are prepared to deal with 75,000 and 65,000, respectively, with hundreds of thousands planning to travel from regional airports.

Many of the excited holidaymakers are heading to homes they own in Spain, with the intention of spending as much time in their investment property as possible before the school term starts in September.

With high temperatures and fairly settled weather predicted over the next few weeks, British holiday makers will be making the most of their overseas property swimming pools and nearby beaches.

For many children it’s a first hand opportunity to sample the Spanish culture firsthand, boost language skills and enjoy all the benefits of a Spanish childhood.
For other families, the benefit will be financial, as holiday rental agents expect to attract record numbers of holidaymakers, and generate massive rental revenues.

Those looking to combine holidays and property sleuthing can take advantage of cheap Viewing Trips and Inspection Tours. Three to seven day trips can be had to many top destinations for a fraction of the cost of a regular holiday, with the property developer will picking up much of the tab and frequently offering rebates should you decide to buy. The vast majority of viewing trips are no obligation, no pressure affairs.

Justin Fleming ABTA President says, “We all remember the excitement we felt when the summer holidays started. This year that excitement will be even greater as hundreds of thousands of families escape the rain for fun in the sun abroad.”
