Gordon Brown Won't Rule Out Military Action In Iran

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says he would not rule out the possibility of military action against Iran. However, Brown today said he believes that sanctions can still persuade Iran to stop its sensitive nuclear work.

The UN has imposed two rounds of sanctions on Iran for failing to halt uranium enrichment, a process that can produce nuclear fuel or more highly enriched material for nuclear weapons. A third sanctions resolution is being considered to force Iran to stop its uranium enrichment work.

Iran maintains that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.

A spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry, Denis Simonneau, today said today it is necessary to maintain "a message of firmness" until Iran complies with UN demands.
