Tintin book booted off kids' shelves

Classic comic book Tintin in the Congo has been removed from the children's section of a major Australian book chain. Senior buyer for Borders Altea Huthnance says the move is in line with action by stores in the UK and US, sparked by a customer complaint that the book was racist.

"The book, of course, needs to be taken in its historical context. It was written many, many years ago," Huthnance said.

"We have now moved that book into the graphic novels section of our store, which is an adult area.

"So customers can still purchase the book, but it is now no longer in the children's section."

Tintin in the Congo is the second in a series of 23 by the Belgian author and illustrator Herge.
