Steak n Shake has issued the following consumer alert regarding Steak n Shake branded 10 Oz. canned chili
"Steak n Shake is participating in a voluntary recall of their 10 oz canned chili product manufactured under license by a company called Castleberry Foods. This is the only product Steak n Shake sells from Castleberry Foods. The chili served in Steak n Shake stores is NOT affected by this recall. The product served in the Steak n Shake restaurants is made from fresh ingredients in a kettle in each store. The product made by Castleberry foods is made from different ingredient suppliers using a completely different production process in their canning facility.
The Castleberry produced products that are part of the recall are under investigation for possibly containing bacterium that could cause a life threatening illness. This recall is a precautionary measure being taken in conjunction with Castleberry Foods, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). If you have eaten this product and are not feeling well, you should seek medical attention.
If you still have this product in your home, dispose of the can and bring the label to our store for a full refund. Again, this recall does not affect any of our other chili products." -Stake 'n Shake
