Sony celebrates sales increase in June and July especially since its price cut. PlayStation 3 with 60GB memory storage price was cut by $100 starting July 9. Since then, gaming unit sales jumped up by 135 percent. In June Sony sold about 95500 units. Newly estimated $499 price attracted lots of gamers to purchase PlayStation 3.
"The new price on the 60 GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail," said Jack Tretton, Sony Entertainment CEO.
"This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software, leading off with the new 80 GB PS3 in August along with the unveiling of highly anticipated games such as 'Lair' and 'Warhawk.' That will be followed by 'Heavenly Sword' in September and six more exclusive first-party PS3 games in October, including 'Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.'"
Sony also had a good luck with 161 percent increase in total PlayStation hardware sales, 15 percent increase in software sales, 60 percent increase in peripheral sales.
Microsoft is not that lucky currently. Xbox 360 hardware failures caused about $1.892 billion loss. The company extended hardware warranty and repaired failed devices for free.
Without Xbox 360 failure Microsoft could make a good business with ‘Halo 3’ bestselling game and console price cut. But still the company has sold more units in June than in May: 198400 consoles in June and 155000 consoles in May.
The absolute winner among video games is Nintendo’s console. The company sold about 381800 Wii consoles in June. Wii is the most affordable console in the market and it targets a larger range of gamers.
In average, whole video gaming industry increased by 31 percent comparing to last year’s statistics. HULIQ
