Matt Damon gets star on Walk of Fame

Being immortalised on the Walk of Fame turned into a trip down memory lane for Matt Damon overnight as the actor added his name to the star-studded stretch of sidewalk in Hollywood.

Damon, whose latest film The Bourne Ultimatum is released in August, became the 2,343rd celebrity to be honoured with a star in the popular tourist district on Hollywood Boulevard.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the occasion, Damon said the event brought back memories of his years spent as a struggling actor-writer when he was living with close friend Ben Affleck.

"Ben and I lived in a really, really crappy apartment about five blocks away from here," said Damon, who recently starred in Ocean's 13 as well as Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning The Departed.

"We used to walk up and down here, and look at these stars and ... I hoped, I dreamed that this would happen but I ... thank you, thanks a lot." © 2007 Australian Broadcasting Corporation
