One of subcontractor’s workers reported about the computer damage a few days ago. NASA representative ensures that the damage occurred at subcontractor’s facility. The computer was working properly at Kennedy Space Centre, Florida. The damage was detected before the computer was taken to Endeavour.
"One of our subcontractors noticed that a network box for the shuttle had appeared to be tampered with," NASA spokeswoman Katherine Trinidad said. "It is intentional damage to hardware."
The damaged computer is supposed to monitor space station’s beam and transfer that information to NASA station on the Earth. There were found several wires cut in the computer. There are no details about how and when the incident happened.
NASA is now investigating the case of computer sabotage, but the most important thing is now computer repair and mission scheduled launch. NASA representative said that the computer crash is already detected and easy to repair.
“What we are trying to do now is repair that unit and try and fly it when possible. The damage is very obvious. It's easy to detect. It's not a mystery to us,” said NASA representative.
Space shuttle Endeavour will launch a mission with seven crew members from Cape Canaveral in Florida on August 7. The mission’s destination is International Space Station. Astronauts must rearrange solar modules of the ISS. HULIQ
