
Eurovision popster Russ Spencer will be flying the Vulgarian flag for four weeks taking on the role of the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The Mayflower Theatre from 6 August.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang opened to rave reviews last month, with Alvin Stardust in the role of the Child Catcher along with Craig McLachlan as Caractacus Potts, and Tony Adams as Grandpa Potts. The show continues at The Mayflower Southampton until 15 September.
Russ Spencer from Bournemouth is a member of the pop band Scooch who represented the UK at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Flying the Flag (For You). The track also stormed its way into the UK charts and remained nestled in the top 5 for several weeks. Russ is a successful TV presenter hosting popular daytime game shows and last year he was in the hit Channel 4 and E4 series Boys Will Be Girls, trying to pass himself off as a woman!
With a cast and crew of over 100 (including 10 dogs), sensational sets and stunning special effects this action-packed adventure is the story of the magical car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, and his two children Jemima and Jeremy alongside Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, all try and outwit the dastardly Baron and the evil Child Catcher.
Adrian Noble directs the first stage adaptation of the classic 1968 film by Ian Fleming, featuring favourite songs Truly Scrumptious, Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain and the Oscar-nominated title song.
