In 2005 the government of Denmark established the Globalisation Council, whose task was to advise the government on a strategy for developing Denmark into a leading society for growth, knowledge and entrepreneurship. The aim was to ensure that Denmark continues to rank among the best in the global economy.

Based on the Globalisation Council's work, in April 2006 the government presented its strategy for Denmark in the global economy, which contained 350 specific initiatives. One of these was to prepare an assertive trade policy strategy with a view to identifying and dismantling the trade barriers encountered by Danish companies, especially on growth markets.

Thus, on June 27, 2007, the government published "An Assertive Trade Policy Strategy - Danish Trade Policy in a Globalised World". The strategy has been prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs in close collaboration with the Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.

An executive English summary has been prepared, which can be downloaded on this page by clicking on the title "An Assertive Trade Policy Strategy - Executive English Summary" on the right side of this page.

The summary consists of the foreword and the first two sections of the strategy serving as an executive summary containing the crux of the full report.

The full report along with the underlying analyses exist in a Danish version only and can be downloaded from the Foreign Ministry's Danish home page. - Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark
