I Left My Heart, A Salute to the Music of Tony Bennett, a jazzy new musical revue opens at Phoenix Theatre, salutes the music of one of America's most recognizable voices and a man whom Frank Sinatra once called "the greatest singer in the world."Â Add to this an unbelievable trio of talented crooners and you have the new Phoenix Theatre hit. This intimate, musical revue features songs that the legendary Bennett has entertained audiences with for his nearly half decade career.
The evening will include such Bennett classics as The Best Is Yet To Come, Stranger in Paradise, I Got Rhythm, The Good Life, and I Left My Heart In San Francisco. Robert Kolby Harper, Phoenix Theatre's Associate Producing Artistic Director, will direct this Southwest Premiere.
"This is the perfect time to be celebrating the remarkable career of Tony Bennett,"Â says Harper, "These songs are timeless and we are thrilled to have such an incredible trio of talented men on our stage. Audiences are going to fall in love with these three gifted vocalists."Â
This "incredible trio" includes Arthur Marks, Richard Manera and Michael Sample. Marks was most recently seen on the Phoenix Theatre stage in the audience favorite, Smokey Joe's Café, while Manera and Sample just closed the second most successful opening show in Phoenix Theatre's 86 year history, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Phoenix Theatre's Resident Musical Director, Alan Ruch, will lead the onstage jazz combo that will perform more than 35 pop standards that celebrate Bennett's career.
A new wave of excitement surrounds Tony Bennett as he celebrates his eightieth-birthday with the recent release of a new recording titled Duets: An American Classic, a supporting tour and a television special, "Tony Bennett, An American Classic"Â to be aired on NBC. The creator of this new musical revue says the show was created for one reason; to celebrate this American Icon.
"We created a show that ultimately respects Mr. Bennett and have provided a score, which is authentic and complete to his vision, talent and sublime musicality,"Â said creator Vince diMura. "Simply put, he's a living legend."Â
Finally, Harper adds, "This show falls somewhere between an intimate concert and theatrical experience. It is truly unique and we guarantee you'll be humming some of the world's greatest songs on your drive home."Â
Neiman Marcus has donated the hip, urban-sophisticated looks for all three actors for the first act of I Left My Heart.
