German Photography Presented At Boston Museum

This exhibition at Museum Of Fine Arts, Boston features approximately 20 works created by German photographers during the 20th century.

It examines the work of artists associated with the New Objectivity movement of the 1920s-30s and its emphasis on close observation, sharp focus, and documentary quality as setting a precedent for subsequent generations of German photographers.

Far from a comprehensive survey, Outlook: German Photography includes the work of Albert Renger-Patzsch and August Sander from the early part of the century, and recent photographs by Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky and Candida Hofer, who have all expanded on and challenged their forbearers in various ways.

The photo shows Biblioteca Geral da Universidade de Coimbra, IV, 2006, Candida Höfer.

The exhibition runs through February 10, 2008. -- www.mfa.org
