Search continues for survivors of Minnesota bridge collapse

The United Sates emergency teams continue to search for eight missing bodies, a day after a bridge over the Mississippi river in Minnesota collapsed killing atleast four.

Five persons were killed and 70 injured after the bridge collapsed during evening rush-hour on Wednesday.

Officials had on Thursday said that 30 to 35 people were missing but then several listed missing turned up and the count was lowered.

The search at times had to be stopped as the debris shifted dangerously or the water became too muddy.

Communication Specialist for the Bridge Collapse Command Center Lynn Schwartz said divers had found 11 vehicles, including an 18-wheeler in the river and a US news channel reported that vehicles with bodies inside were being taken out of the river and empty ones are being marked and left in the water.

Rudely shaken by the collapse of the much used bridge, Federal Transportation Department ordered all states to inspect the bridges similar to the steel-deck truss span which collapsed.

President George W Bush is scheduled to visit the scene of the accident on Saturday. - DDNEWS India
