Today's presidential Republican debate in Iowa showed that the Republican candidates offer nothing more than a continuation of George Bush’s failed policies for America. The nine candidates on stage either ignored or criticized policies that would benefit Iowans. Instead they focused on their support for the Bush Administration's failures to improve health care, lessen our nation’s dependence on foreign oil and change the strategy in Iraq.
All the Republicans supported George Bush's veto threat of legislation expanding SCHIP. In Iowa, this legislation funds HAWK-I, a program to provide health care coverage for children in low income families, and would provide health insurance to 46,000 Iowa children. The candidates also never mentioned renewable energy and the need to decrease America’s dependence on foreign oil, a vital issue to Iowa’s economy as the ethanol industry provides jobs and opportunity for thousands of people in the state.
"Once again, Republicans offered no new ideas for our nation, simply a continuation of George Bush’s failed policies," said Carrie Giddins, Iowa Democratic Party Communications Director. "Today’s debate shows how out of touch these candidates are with Iowa as they ignored the issues that matter most to our state." - Source: IowaPolitics.com Press - Contacts: Carrie Giddins/Chris Allen Phone: 515-244-7292

#2 Iowa Republican Debate and Iraq
I did not watch the debate but what you are saying is interesting. That is a fresh approach.
However, it's a really confusing situation. On one hand I don't see why so many American soldiers should die in Iraq. This war should have not started at all. I am someone who has been against it from the very beginning. Military might does not solve issues in this century: Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq.
On the other hand if you remove the troops from Iraq, the entire world is going to be even more suspicious against USA and not consider USA as a trustworthy and responsible partner. Everyone will think: USA comes in with this doctrine of preemptive strike, creates this mess and leaves without achieving anything.
The 3rd dimension is that Iraq may fall into further bloodshed, which may spread throughout the Middle East involving Iran, Turkey and other Arab countries.
What do I propose? Fight to win the hearts and minds of people. Give solutions to their daily problems, help to improve their lives (we hear in some places they don't have hot water and 24/7 electric power), and most importantly act fast to solve Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The history of the past 50 years has shown that military might is nothing and other are not afraid of it. The war is between ideologies and the West is not winning it.
