
Find gifts that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Illinois at the Ethnic Arts Bazaar at Illinois State Museum on August 15th & 16th, 2007, 10:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.
Twelve artisans from the Illinois Artisans Program will present original fine craft items, including Ukrainian eggs, Jewish calligraphy, Native American ceramics, American folk art carvings, African paintings and jewelry, traditional Mexican folk art, and Asian-inspired collages. Rose Ann Chasman will demonstrate her elegant calligraphy and paper cut pieces inspired by Jewish texts.
Originally from China, participating artist Hua Nian brought a paper-tearing art technique with her. “With the randomly torn shapes piled up in front of me,” Nian explains, “I usually start a work without any certain images in mind. The colorful shapes, and even the sound of ripping the paper, stimulate my imagination”. Visit the art spree and watch Nian demonstrate her process, and meet the other participating artists:
