Greenphone, the first open Linux mobile development device for software innovation, as well as the Qtopia Greenphone Developer Challenge, a global contest to encourage development of Linux-based mobile phone applications, has opened the doors for new development.
All LinuxWorld attendees will have the chance to vote for their favorite Greenphone application from some of the best entrants resulting from the Qtopia Greenphone Developer Challenge. Voting will take place at Trolltech’s Booth #1226 and one voter selected at random will win a Greenphone. Voting will close when the LinuxWorld floor closes on August 9, 2007; winners will be announced on August 10, 2007
“With so much interest in open phones, we’re quite pleased to showcase the innovation that’s been happening on the application side since we launched Greenphone last year. It’s exciting to see what developers are creating,” said Benoit Schillings, chief technology officer for Trolltech.
Greenphone is offered as part of a complete software development kit (SDK) and includes Trolltech’s Qtopia Phone Edition, a comprehensive application platform and user interface for Linux-based mobile phones. Although not intended as a commercial mobile phone, Greenphone has many of the communication functions and features found in today’s sophisticated smartphones. Developers can exploit these features and functions in developing their own unique applications. -Trolltech
