
Mona Lisa actress Cathy Tyson was awarded 'Best Actress in a Visiting Production' at last week's Manchester Evening News Awards.
Cathy Tyson received the award for Best Actress in a Visting Production for her powerful portrayal of Joss Moody in Trumpet at Contact earlier this year.
During a heartfelt speech, Cathy spoke of the impact that the play had on her and said that it was a privilege to be a part of such a ground-breaking production.
Winner of The Guardian Fiction Prize, Jackie Kay's 1998 novel Trumpet, follows the death of famed jazz trumpeter Joss Moody and the incredible secret his passing reveals. Following the funeral and the shocking revelation, his widow, Millie, flees to Scotland to escape the press who are intent on revealing the 'truth' behind the legend"¦
Trumpet was a Skeklers Theatre Company and Drill Hall production, which was presented at Contact in Manchester by queerupnorth International Festival (May 2006), and at The Drill Hall in London (June 2006), where it also toured to local schools as part of The Drill Hall's burgeoning education programme. It was adapted for the stage and directed by Grace Barnes.
