McAfee, Inc. announced that the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) named McAfee® VirusScan as one of the most influential technology products of the past 25 years. McAfee VirusScan was named alongside other ground-breaking technology products. Among these were Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Apple's iPod and RIM's BlackBerry.

"Over the past 18 years, McAfee VirusScan has become almost synonymous with the phrase 'computer security'", said Vimal Solanki, McAfee's senior director, product marketing. "As cybercrime has become more sophisticated, we have had to increase our portfolio to offer broad endpoint, network, data, web, and email protection solutions, to name just a portion of our security risk management portfolio. But it began with McAfee VirusScan. As such, we are honored to receive this recognition from CompTIA."

McAfee VirusScan proactively stops and removes malicious software. It extends coverage against new security risks. It blends advanced anti-virus, firewall and intrusion prevention to protect against a broad range of threats. Unknown viruses can be found with advanced heuristics and generic detection. This includes identifying malware hidden in compressed files. Overall, McAfee VirusScan reduces the cost of an individual or company to respond to outbreaks. McAfee's VirusScan technology is incorporated into a number of McAfee solutions. These range from solutions for the home user to solutions for the largest enterprises. -McAfee
