California Museum of Photography presents annual Joshua Tree National Park photography workshop from August 10, 2007 to October 20, 2007.

Photographic Encounters 2007 workshop explored the lesser-known side of Joshua Tree that few people get to see: The nocturnal landscape of the park once the sun goes down and the stars come out. Most tourists would think of this landscape as the dark side of the moon; something that can never be seen. However, Photographic Encounters will show that there is a whole other world of beauty to Joshua Tree at night.

Co-organized by UCR/California Museum of Photography, the National Parks Conservation Association and Riverside Art Museum, the Photographic Encounters project focuses on various issues related to photography, the environment and visual arts in general. The annual Joshua Tree National Park photography program continues to highlight the social impact possible when arts organizations collaborate with environmental groups.

New Light will help to develop awareness in the community of a precious desert resource — scenic night skies. Projects produced by participants shed new light on our environment, potentially shaping community perspectives about future conservation efforts. -- www.cmp.ucr.edu
