Inspiration to take up painting, creative writing, IT and photography is on offer at the University of Bath in Swindon, as part of a new programme of courses for the community starting in the autumn.
The weekly classes cover a wide range of subjects, from archaeology to philosophy, and term starts at the Oakfield campus on Monday 8 October.
Local crime writer Judith Cranswick will teach an entertaining Creative writing course to help students master the techniques of writing compelling fiction. Suitable for all levels, the course will reveal how to create credible characters, make dialogue come alive and develop story ideas.
In An introduction to digital photography students can get to grips with their camera technology and learn how to scan, compress and store photographs, prepare photos for emailing and edit using Photoshop. Students will also make a photo montage and slide show.
In Practical ethics, students will address controversial moral questions: Is it wrong to have children? Is it wrong to eat meat? How much should we give to charity, if anything? Dr Gerald Harrison, a former philosophy lecturer from the University of Durham, will help students to critically engage with the issues.
