The Synopsis:
Ferrando and Guglielmo think that their fiancées, Fiordiligi and Dorabella, will always remain loyal. Don Alfonso, an old bachelor, bets the two young men that their fiancées are no more faithful than other women are.
As part of the bet, the two men pretend to be sent off to battle but instead dress up as two Albanian suitors. After a series of hilarious attempts, the two Albanians manage to gain the love of Fiordiligi and Dorabella. However, in finding new loves, the men inevitably lose the bet. Everyone still opts for a happy ending, albeit much wiser for the wear.
The Cast:
The Opera Company of Brooklyn boasts a vibrant, young cast filled with tomorrow’s future opera stars. Tenor and soprano husband-and-wife team John Zuckerman and Anna Niedbala sing one pair of lovers: Ferrando and Fiordiligi, respectively.
Baritone Justin Ryan courts the affections of mezzosoprano Julie Baron as the Gugliemo/Dorabella duo and rounding out the cast is the instigator of the bet: Don Alfonso, sung by bass Walter DuMelle and his Girl Friday (and the girls’ crafty maid), coloratura soprano, Donata Cucinotta. -- www.operabrooklyn.com
