BalletMet Hosts Third Choreography Project

BalletMet Columbus is currently accepting applications for the third Columbus Choreography Project. Sponsored by the Greater Columbus Arts Council and administered by BalletMet, the project, which began in 2004, provides funding and a venue for local dance artists to explore the art of creating dances. The application deadline is Oct. 26, 2007.

Applicants will present works-in-progress at a closed adjudication the week of Jan. 28, 2008. Twelve of those participants will be granted $1,250 for further development of their choreography; completed works will be presented in a showcase in front of an audience Apr. 10, 2008. After the showcase, up to three choreographers will receive $2,500 fellowships.

“Supporting and encouraging new choreographers has been an essential part of BalletMet’s mission through its 30-year history,” said Artistic Director Gerard Charles. “We’re delighted for the opportunity to foster artists from our community.”

Participating choreographers must be Franklin County residents who intend to maintain residency from July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008. Applicants may not be students of any degree- or certificate-granting institution. Fellowship winners of the 2005-2006 Columbus Choreography Project may not apply.

Applications and resumes must be postmarked no later than Oct. 26. Works presented for initial adjudication the week of Jan. 28 must consist of new, original choreography in any dance style and must be three to eight minutes long. Works must be created during the grant period and not premiered elsewhere. -- www.balletmet.org
