As part of the Arrivals festival, which is produced by CreateKX in association with St Pancras International, The Place will present a weekend of performances by Rosas dance company and its world-renowned academy PARTS (Performance Art Research and Training Studios). Additionally, The Place is working with five local primary schools to produce a short film and a live dance performance about regeneration.
With the Eurostar's arrival to St Pancras, the journey between the Brussels-based PARTS and London's The Place will be under two hours, making cultural exchange between the two organisations easier than ever. From 16 to 18 November, Belgian dance maverick Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Rosas and current and formers students of PARTS will take over The Place for Sum/Some of the PARTS (All Over The Place). Performances and installations, including excerpts from De Keersmaeker's acclaimed Drumming performed by PARTS students and graduates and the UK premieres of A Love Supreme and Sister, will be presented in The Place's theatre, studios, theatre bar, café and even corridors.
The Place has been working with children from one Islington and four Camden schools during the summer term, providing workshops in poetry, dance and drama. Students were asked to reflect on themes of travelling and meeting people and to envision the future of the neighbourhood surrounding St Pancras. The culmination of the project will be the creation of a short film directed by dance film-maker Michelle Kettle and a live performance choreographed by Alison Swann, both based on the children's contributions.
Arrivals is a partnership working with key public, private and voluntary sector organisations based in the area. The programme of events, running from 15th-25th November 2007, will feature new commissions of dance, live and digital art, arts projects by local communities and events produced by arts and cultural partners in a variety of venues and public spaces. -- www.theplace.org.uk
