The concerts will be led by American conductor JoAnn Falletta, Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Virginia Symphony Orchestras, described by the New York Times as “one of the finest conductors of her generation”. The programme, influenced by the venue and its artefacts, features Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, MacCunn’s The Land of the Mountain and the Flood, Debussy’s Petite Suite, Walton’s Spitfire Prelude and Fugue and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No3 Scottish.

Doors open at 6.45pm to allow patrons a chance to view the museum and collections. A special pre-theatre menu is available to ticket holders only at Café KG. Bailie Liz Cameron, the Chair of Culture & Sport Glasgow, said: “This is a rare opportunity to hear some of the finest music in one of Scotland’s most beautiful settings. “Kelvingrove was originally designed to be a venue for music, as well as a palace of art and culture, and welcoming the RSNO is a tremendous coup for the city.”
RSNO Chief Executive Simon Woods welcomed the collaboration: “Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra are two of the jewels in Scotland's cultural crown. A partnership between Scotland's most popular performing arts organisation and most popular visitor attraction is long overdue, and we think that the sound of a great orchestra in the magnificent centre hall, playing music which will resonate with the exhibits, is a fitting way to do this. It promises to be a memorable and moving experience.” -- www.rsno.org.uk
