New Brunswick’s State Theatre presents comedian Lewis Black, the award-winning and savagely funny observer of modern life, for one performance only, Sunday, October 14, 2007, at 8pm. As “America's Foremost Commentator On Everything,” Black is a regular on Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and has starred in four top-rated comedy specials for the network.
In “Red, White and Screwed,” Black offers his sharp-edge observations on topics such as the Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina and FEMA, gay marriage, the Dick Cheney shooting, President Bush, and fossils and evolution. Tickets are $45-65 (no discounts). Co-Presented by State Theatre and Live Nation Entertainment.
Born and and raised in Silver Springs Maryland, Lewis Black is one of the highest grossing and hardest working live performers in the business. He performs a brilliant trifecta as stand-up comedian, actor, and author. His one-man concerts play to sell-out audiences through out Europe, New Zealand, Canada, and the U.S.
Black started 2007 with a bang by winning a Grammy® Award for “Best Comedy Album” for “The Carnegie Hall Performance.” In February of this year Black performed for three nights at The New York City Center, adding to previous sold-out engagements at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Beacon Theater.
Black received the award for Best Male Stand Up by the American Comedy Awards in 2001. In 2004, he was recognized by the Pollstar Awards for his blockbuster comedy tours: “Rules of Enragement” and “Red, White & Screwed.” His CD and DVD for “Rules of Enragement” and “Red White and Screwed” have earned him two Grammy nominations.
As the creator of “Back in Black” for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Black has been with the show since the beginning. He has a long productive relationship with the Comedy Central network, starring in many TV specials and, in 2006, helping co-create “Last Laugh starring Lewis Black.”
Black’s two HBO specials; “Rules of Enragement” and “Back in Black” have cemented a productive relationship which began with his one man show at The Aspen Comedy Festival in 2001. He has a regular feature on Inside the NFL and is currently developing a sitcom for the network. In 2006, he was honored to appear on “Comic Relief.” In addition, he has appeared on Larry King Live and is a frequent guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He also appears on CNN and is particularly happy to contribute to MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.”
2006 was a break out year for Black as an actor. He co-starred in Barry Levinson’s Man of the Year (with Robin Williams), Accepted, and Unaccompanied Minors. He also stars in Bob Saget’s parody Farce of the Penguins with Samuel L Jackson. His first book, Nothing’s Sacred (Simon and Schuster) debuted on The New York Times Bestseller List. Most recently he linked with Riverhead Books to write a second book , to be released in 2008. -- www.statetheatrenj.org
