‘Merry Evening Of Opera’ At Theatre British Columbia

Following sold-out performances in 2005 and 2006, A MERRY EVENING OF OPERA - Bard on the Beach’s annual celebration of music, song and laughter - this year expands to three Monday evening performances plus a matinee: August 20th and 27th at 8:00 pm and September 3 at 2:00 and 7:00 pm in Bard’s open-ended Mainstage tent in Vanier Park.

UBC Opera Ensemble, which features some of the city’s finest emerging opera talents, and members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra conducted by Leslie Dala, return for their fourth summer at Bard to delight with a fresh repertoire of exuberant opera and operetta favourites. Led by director Nancy Hermiston and hosted by Bard Artistic Director Christopher Gaze, these sparkling evenings promise a marvelous blend of soaring voices and passionate orchestrations performed in Bard’s sensational setting.
This summer’s program is eclectic with numerous selections from The Barber of Seville (Rossini) and Die Fledermaus (Strauss), plus highlights from Carmen and The Pearl Fishers (Bizet). The performance will culminate with rousing choruses from Gilbert and Sullivan’s irresistible The Pirates of Penzance and The Gondoliers. A wonderful night of opera indeed!
