Rajiv 's early childhood was spent in Teen Murti House where his grandfather First Prime Minister of India , Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru used to stay .
After completing his schooling at Doon School he went to England for Higher studies in 1962 and married Sonia in 1967.
He was not interested in politics rather he had keen interest in science and technology due to which he became a pilot in Indian Airlines.
Sudden death of younger brother Sanjay Gandhi prompted him to join politics.
He started his political career in 1981 and won the Loksabha elections by a huge margin from Amethi to become a member of parliament.
He later went on become the Prime Minister of India in 1984 when the nation was recovering from the death of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi .
He always dreamt of a strong and developed India and that's why he encouraged Information Technology and also gave a new thrust to the rural India by strengthening Panchayati Raj.
He extended the universal adult suffrage by reducing the voting age from 21 to 18 years.
He gave a new look to the country's foreign policy and solicited disarmament for establishment of peace in the world.
