And with the premiere of an updated version (thanks to Director Mark Waldrop), the classic music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and ½ price tickets for kids, there is something for dreamers of every age. "I hope that all of our princesses-regardless of how young or old-will be able to experience the sheer pleasure of this production before the clock strikes midnight for the last time," exclaims Marqua.
Cinderella plays on the New Mainstage now - January 7th. Tickets are just $34 - $44 with discounts available to groups, seniors, and students.
In this new version, Waldrop has made some pointed changes. He has increased the comedy for the stepsisters and Stepmother, created a Cinderella who is a rambunctious dreamer, made the spunky Fairy Godmother the central storyteller, and added a new song from the Rodgers and Hammerstein collection ("The Loneliness of Evening"Â was originally written and then cut from South Pacific).
Olney is thrilled to premiere this well received version to families through the holiday season and for 8 extra performances.
The Washington Post raves, "Olney's production is sure to charm its young audience...the vocalists are uniformly impressive, from those in the heavy-lifting roles, to those in the tiniest parts. [Erin Driscoll] allows Cinderella to emit natural sparkle."Â The Washington Times writes, "This Cinderella is a smartened up, modern take on the classic...sparkling performances ruled the night...bright and ingenious."Â Review4U proclaims, "Every mom and dad should take their young misses to this wonderful production...a wonderful stocking stuffer!"Â
