Drop Everything For Pick-Up Picasso

Families can find inspiration for a day of fun from one of the masters at Pick-Up Picasso, the Walker Art Museum's Free First Saturday event from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, September 1.

Featured events include an interactive improv experience with actors Kevin Gilbertson and Jill Bernard; a story reading of Scott Magoon’s Hugo and Miles in I’ve Painted Everything!; art lab activities to make a 3-D paper sculpture inspired by Picasso; a program of short films; and a gallery crawl in the Picasso and American Art galleries.

Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday. Free First Saturdays are for Families!

Pick-Up Picasso on Saturday, September 1, 10 am–3 pm

Gallery Crawl: Puzzling Portraits, 10 am–2 pm
How many noses and eyes can you find in the Picasso and American Art exhibition? Count them as a Walker tour guide talks about selected paintings in the show.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Hey, Picasso Head!, 10 am–3 pm

Style your very own Picasso-inspired head in this 3-D paper sculpture activity.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Mixed-Media Masters, 10 am–3 pm

Use geometric and biomorphic-shaped stencils, paint, oil pastels, and collage materials to paint like Picasso!

Performance: Improvised Fun, 11 am and 1 pm

Join actors Kevin Gilbertson and Jill Bernard for an interactive improv experience sure to get you giggling!

Film: A New Perspective, 12 noon and 2 pm

This program of short films is full of funny characters who inspire audiences to think outside the box.

Story Time: Hugo and Miles in I’ve Painted Everything! by Scott Magoon, 2:30 pm

Hugo, a blue elephant who loves to paint, has run out of ideas. Can artistic inspiration be found in Paris? Join him and his best friend as they learn to see the world in a new way. -- www.walkerart.org
