The songs will be interspersed with family photos as well as classic and some never-before-seen video clips. Steve will be accompanied by a big band conducted by Steve Rawlins, performing many original musical arrangements by Marty Paich and Mel himself.
Steve March Tormé grew up in Westchester County, N.Y. An avid baseball fan, he began listening to games on the radio where, by accident, discovered a love and passion for music. After every game, he would continue listening to music stations and soon found himself singing along with artists such as The Beatles and Nat King Cole.
Following the death of his stepfather, Steve rekindled his relationship with his father, Mel Tormé, as the two shared their love for music and live performance. Steve struck up friendships with other "show biz" kids like Desi Arnaz Jr., Carrie Fisher, and Liza Minnelli with whom he would later end up working.
In the late 1970s, Steve recorded his first LP, "Lucky,"Â for United Artists Records, which fueled a successful 20-city concert tour. Upon returning to California, Steve produced and sang on the Columbia Records Release, "Tropical Nights."Â The CD remains a favorite in New York dance clubs.
Sample songs for Tormé Sings Tormé: A Big Band Tribute to the Life and Music of Mel Tormé include "Sweet Georgia Brown," "When You Wish Upon a Star," "Ruby," "Born to be Blue" and "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing," to name a few.
According to Jazz Scene, "Don't look for a Mel clone in Steve March Tormé. What he does bring to this performance is the same enthusiasm and jazz feeling as his famous old man. He gives it all he's got and you can't help but get the message that the guy can really put across a song."Â
