Queensland petrol probe 'good for consumers'

The chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says a Queensland Government probe into petrol prices will not clash with a national inquiry.

The ACCC is holding a public hearing in Brisbane today as part of its investigations.

Yesterday the Queensland Government launched its own inquiry into why an eight-cents-a-litre subsidy is not being fully passed on to Queensland motorists.

The ACCC's Graham Samuel says the subsidy has not been his primary focus and the findings will complement his investigation.

"Frankly any inquiry that can add to the transparency, that can add to the truth in relation to petrol prices has got to ultimately be good for consumers," he said. - © 2007 ABC Australia
