Grand Theatre's Kelvin Wolski And Bandmates Win Rock Quest 2006

Kelvin Wolski, brother Paul, Linzy Bennett, Jim Towler, Steven Ladley and Johann Hornmeister are The Lotus Circle. The Blackpool-based band have a large local following, and have played every major venue on the Fylde coast and throughout the North West, including the Grand Theatre.

On Friday 15 December 2006 they took to the stage at the Tower Lounge in the final of The Original Rock Quest 2006 and ended the night triumphant. As Robin Duke, Entertainment Editor of the Blackpool Gazette reported, "They came, they played and they conquered - Blackpool band Lotus Circle have been crowned kings (and queen) of the resort's thriving live music scene.

"Big sound, massive charisma, huge local support, a cowboy hat here and there and the occasional Jimi Hendrix riff made sure the packed Tower Lounge bar - not to mention the six judges - was going to sit or stand up and notice them from the moment they exploded on stage right through to the show stopping finale."

Kelvin Wolski has worked at the Grand Theatre for the past eleven years as a technician, having trained at Blackpool and the Fylde College performing arts department. He stage manages the Lawrence House Studio, where he contributes to our artistic policy for young theatregoers. Kelvin said, "The whole band are reeling from winning Rock Quest. There is so much musical talent in the area, we are honoured. This is just one of many highlights we have had this year. Another of our most memorable events was performing at the Grand Theatre earlier this year. Look out for a return concert next year!"

In May 2006, the Lotus Circle answered a call from the Grand Theatre to open its doors to Blackpool's young musicians and entertainers. It was a bold and innovating attempt to give the rising talent of the North West a chance to perform in a professional environment, embracing a music scene that exists underground, propelling it over-ground, in the neo-baroque surroundings of the Grand. The Lotus Circle headlined the concert; an event that brought the worlds of rock 'n' roll, theatre and Variety together in an explosive mix of unrivalled performance art with fellow bands The Moogs and Sinister Footwear.

We look forward to a return concert from The Lotus Circle and their friends in early summer 2007.
